The Smithy Beck
A great mini adventure and perfect for little legs, the walk is two miles long. You can use an all terrain pushchair here, but bear in mind there are a couple of steep sections that need some extra effort, albeit short.
Starting at Bowness Knott car park you follow the main path down and alongside the shore of Ennerdale Water with the summits of Steeple and Pillar high above in the backdrop. The Smithy Beck trail is then clearly signposted taking you off onto a footpath on your left side.
The path winds through lush forest (if you are lucky you may see red squirrels) before reaching the Smithy Beck waterfall. As you can see from our photos, our kids love to swim, picnic and climb here. You can then follow the beck down until it flows into the lake and follow the main path back to the car park.
