This traditional cottage is small, but has been designed with character and comfort in mind. We hope it reflects the area that it sits in and celebrates the style in which it was built!

It’s been carefully considered to maximise space and offer our visitors an ideal base for their time spent in The Western Lakes.

The cottage sits in the Village of Kirkland that sits in an elevated position with views over Ennerdale water and the surrounding high fells. From the main bedroom window you can see across to the summits of Pillar, Steeple, Black Crag, Scoat Fell, Haycock, Gavel Fell, Grike & Crag fell.

The cottage is small but well equipped with one double room with fell views and another with bunk beds suitable for adult guests.

Porch:

The front door opens to a convenient porch area with multiple hooks, and a wet shoe tray for outdoor gear.

Living Area:

This leads through to the snug sitting room, lovingly furnished with a stylish mix of modern and traditional furniture. The space is small, but there’s a two seater sofa and a comfy arm chair offering guests a place to relax, chat or plan the next day’s adventure. If all guests are involved then there’s also the option of an extra folding chair (easily accessible but optional to maximise space). If entertainment is needed, then choose from the small selection of card games on offer or browse the books left by us or previous guests. There’s a smart TV with a good speed of wifi available for anyone wanting to stream from their own Netflix or Amazon account. During colder months the log burner is fully working and on brighter days, the room is East facing, so do make the most of the morning sun!

Kitchen/Ultility room:

The kitchen/dining area is small but well equipped space, with electric cooker and induction hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and coffee machine. A sample amount of compostable pods are provided for our guest’s first coffees. Relax and enjoy whilst listening to your own audio choices on the Alexa speaker provided. An antique pine table and bench seating for four guests provides a practical eating space and could also be used for working or that all important map reading! To save our guests doing all the washing up, a dishwasher is located to rear the of kitchen in the utility area. And to support our continued efforts, dish washing materials and recycling processes have been selected to offer more eco-friendly options. There’s also a washing machine, clothes airer and a double bike rack for guests who value being able to store these inside overnight.

Outside:

With the sun rising at the front, the bench at our entrance offers a great spot for morning cuppa. THERE IS NO GARDEN OR SECURE OUTSIDE SPACE (dog owners please note) but we are lucky to have a wonderful village location, with great views and access to public paths within minutes.

Bedrooms:

Going upstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms. The first sleeps two and has a double bed. The second has adult suitable bunk beds, providing flexible accommodation for two more guests. Both rooms have been thoughtfully designed with touches of our traditional/modern style and a good a level of function as the space allows.

The bathroom has an electric shower over bath, WC and heated towel rail. A simple space but with everything present and correct!

Parking

Parking is on the street.

Dogs

There is only room for one small to medium well behaved dog. We love dogs but do ask that they remain downstairs during your stay. We know this can be difficult to manage so there is a stair gate provided should you need it. We also ask that they are not allowed on the furniture here at Kirkland Cottage. If you know that they are likely to do this or just want to protect from muddy splash then there is a paw print throw in the glass cabinet that will cover the sofa seats. This helps our housekeeping team and allows us to keep welcoming them, so thanks very much for your help.
